Punctuation  [ෆ(න්)ක්ටුඒ(ස)න්]   විරාම ලකුණු

(01) Full stop

     පළමුව අපි Full stop, නැවතීමේ තිත, නැත්නම් නැවතීමේ ලකුණ ගැන සළකා බලමු.

     Full stop ලකුණ,

                         (01) We use Full stop at the end of a sentence.  (වාක්‍යයක් අවසන් කිරීමේදී භාවිතා වේ.)
                                
                                 Eg:          I went home.
                                                 Sun rises.





                          (02)  We use Full stop at the end of an abbreviation. (කෙටි යෙදුම් සදහා)

                                                          Dr.  
                                                          Capt.   
                                                          U.N.O.    
                                                          B.C.

(02) Capitalization

මෙහිදී,
       
           
                                    (01) Capitalize the first letter of the word of a sentence. ( වාක්‍යයක් ආරම්භයේ දී පළමු අකුර capitalize කළ යුතුය. )

                         
                                                                           Eg:      He is my father.
                                                                                       What is his job?
                                                                                       Come here!    



                                    (02) Use a capital letter for the names of people and the initials that stand for their names.
                                            (  පුද්ගල නාම හා මුලකුරු සදහා )

                                   
                                                                          Eg:       Saman
                                                                                      Kamal
                                                                                      Lalith M. Perera   
                                                                                      L. M. Perera



                                    (03) Always use a capital letter for the pronoun I. ( I <මම> වාක්‍යයක කොතැනක තිබුණත්
                                               capital වලින්ම ලිවිය යුතුය. )


                                                                          Eg:      I am ten years old.
                                                                                     May I go.


                                    (04) Capitalize titles of respect or abbreviations of titles when they                    come  before   the    names of people.

                                                                          Eg:      Dr. C. Tisdell
                                                                                     Captain Samaranayake



                                    (05) Use a capital letter to show family relationships.

                         
                                                                          Eg:     She is my Mom.
                                                                                     He is my Dad.

       
                                    (06) Do not use capital letters that show family realationships when they follow a possessive noun
                                              or pronoun.
                                              
                                                                          Eg:      Saman's father
                                                                                      Ruwan's mother
                                                                                      Ruwan's mother is a housewife.


                                     (07) Names of Places.
                                               

                                             රටවල්, නගර, මහාද්වීප ආදිය වල නම් ලිවීමේදී....


                                                                          Eg:    Sri Lanka
                                                                                    Colombo  
                                                                                     Asia


                                           

                                             විශේෂ ස්ථාන වල නම් සදහන් කිරීමේදී....


                                                                          Eg:    Indian Ocean
                                                                                    Mahaweli
                                                                                    Kala Wewa




                                              රටක පළාත් ආදිය නම් කිරීමේදී....


                                                                          Eg:    The North
                                                                                    The Uva province
                                                                                    




                                             Highways සහ මාවත් නම් කිරීමේදී....


                                                                           Eg:      School Lane
                                                                                       Amor Street
                                                                                       Highway 40




                                              තාරකා සහ ග්‍රහලෝක නම් කිරීමේදී....



                                                                           Eg:    North Star
                                                                                     Mercury





                              (08) Other


                                           

                                                අවුරුද්දේ දින, මාස හා නිවාඩු....  < note: ඍතු ලිවීමේදී capital නොකළ යුතු ය. >

                                                                                      fall (ඍතු/ title එකක් විදියට නොයෙදේ නම් capital නොකළ යුතු ය. )

                                                  ඒ වගේම තවද පාසල්, Clubs, ආයතන, භාෂා,ජාතින්, පොත්,කවි, ගීත, පුද්ගල නාම කෙටි යෙදුම් ආදීය ලිවීමේදී capital භාවිතා වේ.
